" This Poison! should be lauded as one of the things that remained great in a decade that was in the main destined for the dustbin. "
- Friends of The Heroes

“The Palisades, Their “month too soon” 5 track 12” on Easter Records is a clever, intricate piece of work relying on versatile guitars and harmonica for an overall fretful, yearning, despondent music with suitable content “ ..Giggling in the rain is remarkable, in this age of discussion when every emotion can be televised and shown to the world, that far off passion .. In drought each drop goes OH!” – Do It For Fun on The Palisades

"This is probably my favorite release in the Egg Restoration Programme to date - not just because the band was dead brilliant (which they were), but because of the number of previously unreleased tracks on the disc. I have both of the original singles (which was all the band released, apart from a couple of comp tracks) and love them dearly, so when I saw that this disc added an additional ten tracks on top of them... ...well, needless to say I was rather excited. The band's two singles were released on the Wedding Present's Reception Records, which was a match made in heaven. The guitars are ferociously jangly and the bass lines are as fluid as they are trebly. It was clear that This Poison! had precisely the same Postcard influences as the Weddoes. Of the ten extra tracks, seven of them are previously unreleased studio sessions, while the last three are demos - all of which are just as brilliant as the original four songs from the singles. This band certainly deserves to be rescued from obscurity, and let's hope this disc does just that! 14/14 " - Indiepages on This Poison

"Egg Records have a powerful argument behind them in the heavenly shape of The Prayers, whose fragmented beauty sites somewhere along the Pale Saints/Lush/My Bloody Valentine axis" - Stephen Dalton, NME.

" the Pretty Mouth collection by Change of Seasons. I had lost track of the Egg label by the time this Toronto duo released their ‘You Again’ / ‘Soft Spoken’ single in 1991, so this whole album is completely new to me. Whether it’s the delight of the new or something more substantial only time will tell, but this week Change of Seasons sound like one of the great lost groups ever. With a nod to the Wake, Go-Betweens, Stars of Heaven and The Orchids, Change of Seasons are a sweetly soft revelation that you’d be daft to ignore this time around." - Tangents Review of Change of Seasons

"Here's another reissue (of sorts) of material from a little known Scottish group from Egg Records. I say "of sorts", as unlike Egg's other reissues, only two of these eleven tracks have ever been issued (on a Head Records 7"), with the label unearthing a whopping nine previously unheard tracks! These songs have a similar quality to them, which makes me think they were planned for an lp release, but as the disc's liner notes contain no information (apart from the fact that the songs were recorded between 1986 and 1989), that's merely speculation. The band's sound is pretty close to their labelmates, the Servants, with elements of jangly pop, but also an occasionally darker sound showing through in songs like "Distant Shores" and "Serious Mistakes" (especially due to the "Faith"-era Cure-esque bass sound). They also remind me a little of Primal Scream (the intro to "Life On The Great White Wastes" sounds just like the intro to the demo version of "Aftermath", and "Down Through The Room" would've fit perfectly on their second album). The two tracks from their single shine brightest here, as does "Standing In The Rain" and the album's opener, "Take Me Away" (which also surfaces again at the end of the album, as an alternate version, which I almost like more than the original!). A great document of a previously unknown (at least for me) band". 9/11 - Indiepages. The Submarines

"In case you were unaware, Egg Records was a short-lived, but important label in the late 80s/early 90s post-c86 UK pop scene. Based in Glasgow, they released singles from the Prayers, Bachelor Pad and Change Of Seasons, as well as the classic "Lighthouse In A Desert" compilation 12" with the former two bands, Remember Fun and the Church Grims. This disc, the first released on the newly revived label, compiles tracks from all eight of the label's releases (mostly the A-sides, and all four tracks from the comp 12"), and even adds three previously unreleased songs from Remember Fun, Church Grims and Change Of Seasons! I feel this disc could've been a bit more comprehensive, if not complete - there were only 21 songs released on the label, and it's not like there were any bad ones in the bunch. Still, though, the collection that we do have here is top notch. I'd already known about all the bands (and liked them, too); plus it's very nice to have them all collected here. And if this wasn't enough, the label intends to release more records, both new (Change Of Seasons lp) and old (comps from the other four bands with everything from singles to demos to live stuff). Definitely a lot to look forward to, and this is a great start! " - Indie Pages Review Eggrest001
