"In case you were unaware, Egg Records was a short-lived, but important label in the late 80s/early 90s post-c86 UK pop scene. Based in Glasgow, they released singles from the Prayers, Bachelor Pad and Change Of Seasons, as well as the classic "Lighthouse In A Desert" compilation 12" with the former two bands, Remember Fun and the Church Grims. This disc, the first released on the newly revived label, compiles tracks from all eight of the label's releases (mostly the A-sides, and all four tracks from the comp 12"), and even adds three previously unreleased songs from Remember Fun, Church Grims and Change Of Seasons! I feel this disc could've been a bit more comprehensive, if not complete - there were only 21 songs released on the label, and it's not like there were any bad ones in the bunch. Still, though, the collection that we do have here is top notch. I'd already known about all the bands (and liked them, too); plus it's very nice to have them all collected here. And if this wasn't enough, the label intends to release more records, both new (Change Of Seasons lp) and old (comps from the other four bands with everything from singles to demos to live stuff). Definitely a lot to look forward to, and this is a great start! " - Indie Pages Review |
